Artistic Research

Artistic research is a field of activity that has been growing over the past few decades and encompasses all kinds of artistic practices. Such work is experimental and always grounded in practice, with a characteristic focus on knowledges that come into being through practice itself.

While music hasn’t always led the developments in artistic research, artistic research in music specifically is also a growing field, with a number of institutions now dedicated to it:

A forthcoming piece considers the differences between artistic research and music-theory work that focuses on performance, conceived for US-based scholar-performers, and includes an interview with pianist Francisca Skoogh.
